Audio ads

Food bank ads
What is the sound clip you are listening to?
A kid singing about what he wants to eat. Than a woman at the end of the clip talking about ending hunger for people.

Are there different people speaking?
There are two people in the advert. One is the boy and one is an older woman showing he support and how to support.

What exactly are they talking about?
What they want to eat. The boy is repeating the words ‘I want to eat eat eat apple and bananas.

Who is talking, what is their tone of voice and what do they add to the information given?
There are two people talking. One woman and one little boy. The little boy looks like he just got home and was hungry and what he wanted to eat was apple and bananas.
Whereas the woman was giving more information and selling the charity.

What different types of audio clips (Sound effects, music etc) have been used and how do you think they were obtained?
The audio clips used are voice over and music.

In which different locations and situations were the clips recorded?
When the boy was walking home and then when he was looking for food.

What do these different sounds add to the effect of the audio?

Who do you think is the target audience?
Parents are carers and people which have a secure job.

What do you think the audience may have learned from this?
That food isn’t something which grows on trees and that it has no price as some people in the world are starving and dying due to the lack of food.

Do you think this will appeal to the target audience and why?
Yes this will due to the fact of it being a 10/12 year old kid and parents which have kids that old will be affected more by the advert.

The sound clip I am listening to is about someone who had to use a food bank as his dad left him when he was young. There is only one voice speaking throughout the whole video clip.  The young man gave a story about how his father left him when he was 2 years old and told us about his personal life. He was sleeping on the streets for 3-4 days and then someone had told him about a food bank. The young man sounds like he is scared of something. There is one constant noise going in the back. The target audience is young teenagers and parents/careers. This will appeal to the target audience as it shows a view point where many people have not seen or heard.

The sound clip I’m listening to is about a food bank which gives food for 3 days to a family. There is only one person’s voice in the whole of the video clip. They are talking about how a food bank works and what they give to the people so they are able to go to a food bank. The person talking has a smooth caring voice which makes people want to listen to what is being said. The clips were shot in different places somewhere shot inside a food bank some was shot inside a meeting room. Adding different sounds to an audio can cause people not to pay attention to the speech but pay attention to the noises behind the voice.

Types and usage of sound
A-v media
Dialogue – people talking to each other
Voice over (V.O) – the disembodied voice of someone. E.g David atermbrough
Sound effects – noise made by other things eg bangs, door creaking
Soundtrack – pre-recorded music which has already been recorded -Scored soundtrack specifically written for the piece

Use of sound
Synchronous sound is sound which is synchronised with the action on the screen.
Asynchronous sound is sound which is not synchronised to the movie or video at all.
Diegetic – someone driving a car and a soundtrack is there we don’t have to see the radio to see it as we can hear it
Non-diegetic – voice over is not being seen as its being said over something else which is happening.

My analysis of a food bank video

The start of the video has a little writing on it with a sad and low volume sound track in the background. Than Richard himself talks about his personal issues which caused him to go to a food bank. This is synchronous, non-diegetic dialogue as while he was speaking we see shots of a park and a pond. He has also shown where he is from on a map so people know where about he is and what help he gets and from where. The video had a time-lapse of a road maybe near his area of people walking and trucks driving past. Than the video goes onto Richards face and he starts talking about his personal life and what has put him onto this position. This is a use of synchronous diegetic dialogue. This would cause people to think about what he’s been through and try not go through it as well. There are many issues with this video as at the beginning of the video while Richard is talking the video is showing a water pond. That to me makes me feel like that has no reason to be there and it was a useless shot. The video also uses different video graphic techniques such as video shots from low to high and side to side. He has different video shots from high shots to low shots to fact shots. They also use a high focus point when he is talking to the camera and the background was blurred. This showed a high focus shot into a certain area. They also used close up into his face.  He also talks about his 10 year old daughter which makes it more difficult for him. Richards’s story is a heart hitting story which hits you in all ways as he even said at the end that he says that he would have not been here in this world if it wasn’t for the food bank as it saved his life. The beginning of this video was a non-diegetic video as it as the beginning of the video he was speaking over different things which was happening than when it came to his face he was speaking into the camera.

App Review

The organisation for the first app was a foodbank had a simple picture and background and simple text. They used simple colours like green and white this may be cause of the brightness. They have 5 sub listings on the app which show simple words which can direct you somewhere easily. Their aim is to get help to help people in need. They even give a donation bar at the bottom because if people don’t have any food to donate they can donate as a little as a pound to help. They have a section saying about us which tells people about what the foodbank is about and what they do. They update the website every week so people who donate are informed on what they foodbank is lacking in and what to donate if they have it. The target audience is people which have family members and even people who are keen to help out society. The content has a simple look to it as it gives everyone a clear view and understanding of where things are.
My personal opinion of this app is that it is rubbish due to the fact it has a plain view on it and doesn’t actually clearly show that a swipe part is involved into the app. I would not recommend this app to anyone as people would not like the look at won’t understand the app.
